Merci Infiniment for Two Terms
of Outstanding Service!
The French-American Chamber of
Commerce would like to pay special tribute to the Honorable Danièle Thomas
Easton, who recently completed two terms of service to the French government as
the Consul of France in Philadelphia and Wilmington. She was appointed in 1996
and has since set the bar very high in her capacity as Consul, working
tirelessly to serve the French citizens of the region as their government’s
representative. She has also passionately promoted the best of French business,
arts and culture, as well as the benefits and attractions of our city, region
and state, both here at home and abroad.
Mrs. Thomas Easton has been a Co-founder, Officer and Board Director of
FACC-Philadelphia since 1989. It was often said by Bob Snyder, FACC’s President
from 1989-2000, that in the early days of our organization, Danièle operated the
Chamber out of her office desk drawer. As FACC Vice President of Programs, she
has been instrumental in bringing some of the most important Guests of Honor to
our annual Fête du Printemps Spring Gala, including Jean-David Levitte,
Ambassador of France to the U.S.; Leonard Lauder, Chairman of The Estée Lauder
Companies; and Madame George Pompidou, former First Lady of France. Thanks to
Mrs. Thomas Easton’s support and guidance, the FACC and the World Affairs
Council had the honor of welcoming Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, former President of
France, and President of the Convention for Europe, to Philadelphia this year.
Peter Tucci, FACC President, remarked, “With her boundless energy and enthusiasm
for strong French-American relations, Danièle is indeed the Heart of
French-Philadelphia.”
Mrs.
Thomas Easton is also Co-founder and Board Director of the French International
School of Philadelphia, a former Chairman and Board Director of the Alliance
Française, a Co-founder and Board Director of the French Institute for Culture
and Technology, formerly at the University of Pennsylvania; and the President
and Founder of the French American Association of Greater Philadelphia, an
umbrella organization coordinating activities among all regional French-American
groups. She also serves on various boards of American business, cultural and
historic organizations.
Previously, she had worked as Projects Director of Greater Philadelphia First (GPF),
a regional organization of chief executives providing leadership primarily on
issues concerning economic development. She personally welcomed and persuaded
many French companies to choose the Greater Philadelphia region for their North
American headquarters. Thanks to her leadership, our area has been recognized as
"the most dynamic region in the U.S. for French investment", according to
Jean-Daniel Gardère, former Minister for Economic & Commercial Affairs at the
Embassy of France in Washington, D.C. She joined Greater Philadelphia
International Network (now GPF) in 1980, having left France in 1978. After
earning her degrees from the University of Lille, Faculté de Lettres et de
Sciences Humaines, Mrs. Thomas Easton taught in France for several years. She
then attended an Ecole de Préparation aux Affaires in Lille and joined the
private sector where she held a number of marketing positions prior to her
departure for the United States. In recognition of her work in Philadelphia, the
French government (Ministry of Industry) made Mrs. Thomas Easton a Chevalier de
l'Ordre National du Mérite in 1994. Mrs. Thomas Easton will continue to be
active in her work as an international business consultant. Her company, France-Philadelphie,
creates business, cultural and artistic bridges between France and the region.
