Volunteer Internship Description:
The Philadelphia Chapter of the French-American Chamber of Commerce (FACC) is seeking two part-time volunteer interns (undergraduates, graduate students or job seekers wishing to enhance their skill set) to start immediately for a minimum of three months. You will train one-on-one with the Executive Director and assist with our daily operations and events in Center City. Candidates must be reliable, conscientious, and detail-oriented. This is an unpaid, volunteer internship.
You do not need to speak French for this position as most of our work is in English. Native French speakers who wish to improve their English may also apply, however, the FACC is not able to host J-1 Visa candidates.
This internship is a great opportunity to meet business leaders from many companies. You will practice networking more effectively, broaden your contact base in the international business community, and learn firsthand how a small, nonprofit business association functions.
You will be trained to update the wix.com website, create content and prepare the monthly e-newsletter in MailChimp, prepare email blasts to announce events and remind our Members and contacts to register before the deadline, set-up online secure payment pages for events in Greater Giving, send monthly e-blasts for TV5Monde and report back on the email engagement statistics, update social media content on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter; create banner graphics in Canva for events, update and maintain the membership database in Google Sheets, and more.
You will receive training in QuickBooks to set up accounts for new Members, invoice membership renewals and sponsorships, and record payments. You will also assist with inputting the financial data in QuickBooks in preparation for quarterly Board Meetings, where you will meet the FACC's Board Members and take the meeting minutes. You may be asked to run business-related errands within Center City, such as picking up the mail, making bank deposits, and visiting the offices of FACC Members to pick up documents or make photocopies.
Interns assist with the planning, preparation, and execution of FACC programs and events (generally 2 events/month), including set-up and break-down. You will be asked to take photos on your phone at events for our website and newsletter. Most events are on Thursday evenings from 6-8 PM, though this can vary. You will also be invited to participate in other FACC meetings and meet local business contacts and when appropriate.
You must bring your own working laptop and cell phone to this internship.
We meet 2 days a week in Center City, for up to 20 hours per week, generally Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 11 AM to 7 PM. Occasionally, other days may be required to prepare for big events, but we can discuss and be flexible. Some work may be completed remotely from home once trained.
MicroSoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Detail-oriented with excellent proof-reading skills. Creative, patient, focused, curious, friendly, goal-oriented, self-starter, helpful, comfortable taking initiative once trained, able to work independently and as part of a team, enjoys meeting new people.
