The Women Leadership Committee at the FACC San Francisco held an inspiring “Meet The Leader” session with Elisa de Martel, CFO at Waymo.

This was a great opportunity to highlight an outstanding female career in finance in the technology industry!

Elisa de Martel shared her path, challenges and career as a Finance executive expert and answered the following questions:

Elisa de Martel is an accomplished Finance executive expert with broad experience in the technology industry including connected hardware as she worked at Apple for 11 years. She has a proven track record of building finance teams to high performance standards and a track record of providing key financial insights to Top Executives to advise on business strategies.

​

As Chief Financial Officer of Waymo, the world’s first autonomous ride-hailing service funded by Alphabet, Silver Lake, CPPIB…, Elisa de Martel is responsible for all the finance functions, indirect procurement, Business Systems and facilities. She is leading the cross-functional strategic planning driving both growth and path to profitability at the crucial inflection point when the company is moving from R&D to commercial scale.

Previously, under her tenure as Chief Financial Officer of Carbon Inc, a 3D printing Digital Manufacturing Platform at the intersection of Hardware, Software and Materials funded by Sequoia, Google Venture and strategic investors, annual revenue grew from $15M to $100M+, and Gross Margin improved by 60 ppts+. Carbon’s CEO and Elisa de Martel led investor roadshow leading to $260M Series E funding, Test the Waters campaigns with prospective investors as well as regular investor updates.

As the Manufacturing Finance Director for all products at Apple, Inc. Elisa de Martel was responsible for a multi-billion-dollar Tooling budget; ROI analysis, and CEO approvals. She played a key stakeholder role in the expansion of the refurb business across lines of business and across channels.

​

As the Worldwide Financial Planning & Analysis Senior Manager at Apple, she was in charge of the worldwide P&L including analytics used for the Earnings calls as well as Long-Term planning. She was part of the presentation and discussion of analytics with the CEO of Apple and his executive team.

​

Elisa de Martel started her career at PwC as accounting and financial auditor working in France and Spain. She also spent 7 years with Citroen, French automobile car maker, in both Sales Finance and Supply and Distribution working in France and in the UK before moving to the US.
