“Pennsylvania Gets It Done!”

On Thursday, July 17, 2024, for the 12th consecutive year, the French-American Chamber of Commerce Philadelphia (FACC) partnered with the British American Business Council of Greater Philadelphia (BABCPHL) for the Summer International Business Networking Reception with the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, the Chilean & American Chamber of Commerce, the German American Chamber of Commerce, the Irish-American Business Chamber & Network, the Japan America Society, the Commerce Department for the City of Philadelphia, and the World Trade Centers of Philadelphia and Delaware.

More than 150 people gathered to celebrate Pennsylvania and the tri-state region as a leader and global partner in trade and commerce, science and technology, research and development, and job creation and economic development. Despite the extreme heat and threat of thunderstorms outside, guests energetically networked, developing business connections during lively conversations, while enjoying lite bites and refreshing drinks inside the Quorum at the University City Science Center.

Keynote speakers Zac Taormina, Plant Manager – Clean Air North America, Johnson Matthey, Inc. and Sean Mahoney, Senior Director of Marketing, Philadelphia, PhilaPort - The Port of Philadelphia, addressed attendees. Zac regaled the group with information about Johnson Matthey’s ground-breaking Clean Air products, and their lead in net zero technology. Sean provided background on the PhilaPort history and delivered exciting breaking news about the re-opening of the Philadelphia Cruise terminal, respectively.

Howard Silverstone, Executive Vice President, J.S. Held LLC, and President, BABCPHL was our Master of Ceremonies; he provided welcome and introductory remarks for each speaker as well as offering witty comments and jokes throughout the evening.

Hayley Boyle, SVP of Programs, World Affairs Council of Philadelphia spoke about the strong union of international groups operating in the region and the importance of collaboration to elevate the important work we do. David Briel, Deputy Secretary, Office of International Business Development, Department of Community & Economic Development, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania spoke on behalf of Governor Shapiro’s Office.

Pierre-Olivier Lugez, Senior Director, International Business & Global Strategy, Department of Commerce, City of Philadelphia spoke on behalf of the Mayor’s Office.

At the end of the evening, Howard and Hayley drew a series of business cards and gave away raffle prizes.
