On September 1, Cohen Media Group will be showing Emmanuel Carrère's (renowned French author, known for The Adversary, My Official Life as a Russian Novel, Lives Other Than My Own) latest film Between Two Worlds (Ouistreham), starring Academy Award-winner Juliette Binoche, in Philadelphia at Landmark's Ritz Five. Between Two Worlds, which is an adaptation of Florence Aubenas' bestselling book The Night Cleaner, delves into the hidden struggles of marginalized workers in Northern France, exploring the fragile balance between invisibility and genuine human connections in a society plagued by economic crises.
Famed author Marianne Winckler (Juliette Binoche) goes undercover to investigate the exploitation of the working class in Northern France. She eventually lands a job as a cleaner on the cross-channel ferry and develops close connections with the other cleaning women, many of whom have extremely limited resources and income opportunities. As she learns more about the plight of these workers, Marianne struggles with her deception toward them and tries to rationalize that it’s for the greater good.
